June 20, 2026
Leta Jan (Lemme) Snider passed from this life to her eternal heavenly home on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in her home nearby her loving husband at the age of 84. Jan was born in Sugden, OK on December 24, 1941 to Harry Franklin Lemme and Lela (Wriggle) Lemme. She was raised in the small town of Sugden, OK where she enjoyed the quiet life of living in the country being surrounded by her family. She was 1 of 4 children born to the Lemme's. After graduating from Waurika High School, she met the love of her life, Larry Lee Snider. They were married on May 22, 1959 in Sugden at the Methodist Church. They lived near the old golf course with her sister, Ann and her family in Waurika, Oklahoma. After the birth of 2 of her boys, they moved with the Old Clem Smalley Ford dealership to Muskogee, OK.
In 1966 her third son was born in Muskogee. Jan began attending North Eastern State University in Tahlequah where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Special Education. In the summer of 1972, the family moved to McCurtain where she began teaching. After two years, the family moved to Bartlesville, OK where she taught Spec. Ed. She was actively involved in special Olympics on a local and state level. The family remained there until the summer of 1980 when they moved to back home to Waurika where she began teaching Spec. Ed. Waurika is where they put down roots and became a big part of the community. She had a deep impact on this community especially through her connections to so many families through those she taught and impacted in the public school system and in the churches they attended. She would often taught children in her home helping them with their studies. Jan loved helping people both children and adults and helping to meet their needs.
Jan was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a homemaker where she stayed busy raising her children and teaching. The family loved to go on vacations hunting rocks and rare gems. The highlight of her life was becoming a Granny. She cherished all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as those in the community who called her "Granny". She was actively involved in the lives of her children and her grandchildren attending as many activities as she could. She loved putting puzzles together and playing board games with her grandchildren. One of the things she loved to do was gardening. Every time the grandkids came down the family would go to the farm to let the kids see the cattle. She was always cooking meals for her family and wanted to make sure everyone was eating what they loved to eat. And she made sure everyone ate first. You were always greeted with a hug from Jan as you came in the door and as you left. One of the loves of her life was her animals. She loved her cats and her dogs. She had many small dogs through the years and they always laid on her bed and were in her lap. One of her cats would jump up on the back of her head as she was walking around.
Survivors include her children Kenny Snider and his wife Vicky of Edmond, Ricky Snider of Waurika, Roy Snider and his wife Karen of Waurika, and Lena Bennett of Lawton and her grandchildren Robbie Snider and his wife Brandi of Del City, Zackary Snider and wife Katie of Moore, Joshua Snider and wife Kiersten of Edmond, Stacey Karhu and husband Chris of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Karol Porterfield of Seymour, Wisconsin, William Wolfthorn and wife Lindsey of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Rachael Brantley and husband James of Waurika, Brandon Herron of Cache, Caleb Herron of Waurika, and Andy Herron of Waurika.
