Jeffery Collier Baker

Jeffery Collier Baker, though only his mama ever called him "Jeffery," passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 54. To nearly everyone else, he was simply Jeff. To his children, he was Dad, and to his five grandchildren, he was the one and only Big Poppa, a name he wore with pride and one that meant the world to him.

Born on February 15, 1972, in Odessa, Texas, Jeff was raised in southwest Oklahoma, where he proudly graduated from Rush Springs High School with the Class of 1990. From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic, determination, and love for people that would define the rest of his life.

Jeff was the kind of man people naturally looked up to. Whether on a job site, in the shop, or gathered with family and friends, he was always willing to teach, encourage, and lend a helping hand. He became a mentor to many and a loyal friend to even more. The lessons he shared, the time he gave, and the example he set will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched.

The oilfield wasn't just Jeff's career. It was part of who he was. He got his start in the family business, Baker Oil, later known as Total Tool, and after it closed in the early 1990s, he built a career that spanned nearly every aspect of the oilfield. There wasn't much in the patch Jeff hadn't done. His years of dedication and experience eventually led him to achieve his goal of becoming an oilfield consultant, a role that reflected the knowledge, leadership, and respect he had earned throughout his career. More importantly, he was known not just for what he knew, but for his willingness to share that knowledge and help mentor those who came behind him.

Outside of work, Jeff enjoyed the things that made life exciting. He loved riding motorcycles, admired big trucks and fast cars, enjoyed hunting, and never passed up an opportunity to travel. He appreciated a good adventure, but he was just as happy spending time with the people he loved. Jeff never met a stranger, and whether you crossed paths with him once or knew him for years, he had a way of making people feel welcome.

Above all else, Jeff was a devoted father, a proud Big Poppa, a loving brother, and a faithful friend. His children and grandchildren were among his greatest blessings, and nothing made him prouder than watching them grow. He loved his family deeply, celebrated their accomplishments, and was always there with advice, encouragement, or a helping hand. His greatest legacy will always be the love he gave and the example he set.

Jeff was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dwight and Linda Sue Baker.

He leaves behind his brothers Brian Baker and wife Michele, and Jim Baker; his children, Bryson Baker and wife Tayler, Brant Baker and wife Lynnsie, Elle Baker, and Nelaina Carter; his cherished grandchildren, Sawyer, Lillian, Talen, Braxton, and Lawson; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, coworkers, and lifelong friends who will forever be grateful to have known him.

Jeff's life wasn't measured by the jobs he held or the miles he traveled. It was measured by the people he mentored, the friendships he built, and the love he poured into his family. He showed others the value of working hard, helping those around you, and living life with honesty and purpose. His influence will continue to be seen in the lives of those he taught, encouraged, and loved.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Ray of Hope in Comanche. The family will be receiving friends on Monday evening, July 20th at the Comanche Funeral Home, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
