Glenda Kay (Kendrick) Countiss, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Wichita Falls, TX, on June 20, 2025.

Glenda was born on July 27, 1943, in Duncan, OK, to G.L. and Reeble (Bridges) Kendrick. She grew up on the family farm in Hastings, OK. She attended school in Hastings until the high school closed and began attending Waurika Public Schools her sophomore year. She was a 1961 graduate of Waurika High School.

Glenda married Sam Countiss on July 7, 1967, in Waurika, where they raised their two daughters. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She always said her favorite "job" was being Mom to her girls, Angela and Amy. She attended every dance recital, livestock show, school event, and everything in between where she often provided food, taxi service, and more, not just for her girls, but for their friends and anyone else who needed anything. She was a devoted wife to Sam and was a living example of the vows "in sickness and in health," especially after he became ill in 2003. She was a tireless and devoted caregiver until he passed in 2017.

Glenda was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church of Waurika where she served on numerous committees. She was a Sunday school teacher for over 25 years. In addition, she served as the Sunday school superintendent. She was an active member of the Waurika Sorosis Club for many years serving twice as president. She enjoyed hosting their annual Christmas party in her home for almost 20 years. Along with decorating every room in her house for Christmas, she coordinated decorating the church for many years alongside her dear friend, Gen Hogstad, and decorated countless tractors for the Waurika Christmas Parade. She and Sam served as the Grand Marshals of the parade in 2014.

Glenda worked at Duncan Savings & Loan until the birth of her first daughter. Once her children were older, she worked for Dr. O.J. Hagg and at Waurika National Bank.

In 2019, Glenda moved to Wichita Falls, TX, to be near her daughters. She enjoyed living in her new neighborhood where her neighbors became her good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her parents, her sister, Robbin Harbour, and her grandparents Mark & Mary Bridges and Birdie Kendrick.

She is survived by her two daughters, Angela and Amy, of Wichita Falls, TX; other family members, and many friends.

A special thank you to the staff at Texas Oncology-Wichita Falls, especially Dr. Malireddy and the amazing nurses and assistants in the infusion suite, for the kindness shown and care given to Glenda since 2020. Special thanks as well to Healing Hands Healthcare, especially Imelda and Cierra, for the lively conversations and wonderful care provided at her home over the last few years. Thanks also to Hospice of Wichita Falls for the care and comfort provided to her at home.

Thank you to Glenda's Wichita Falls neighbors for welcoming her so warmly to the neighborhood and always checking in on her. Thanks as well to longtime friends, Gary and Becky Gerken, for their many phone calls and visits to her in Texas as well as all of the chicken fried steak meals from Texas Roadhouse.

Following a private burial at Waurika Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home, a celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 11:00 AM at the Dudley Funeral Home Chapel in Waurika, with District Superintendent Sonja Tobey from the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Waurika Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 325, Waurika, OK 73573.
