It’s hard to imagine the community of Waurika without Kim Henderson. Kim knew everyone, loved everyone, and was always willing to help everyone. She spent the majority of her life here, attending Waurika Schools, working at numerous businesses, and even owning a restaurant before she became a full-time caretaker for her son, Jed. Kim loved Waurika, and Waurika loved Kim.

Felicia Kim Henderson was born on January 10, 1961, to Jim and Mary Adkins. The oldest of five siblings, Kim grew up fiercely independent and always marched to her own drum. Kim married Greg Henderson on February 8, 1977. From this union came two sons, Joshua Hub and Jedidiah Ted. Kim’s boys were the pride and joy of her life; she loved them more than anything.

Kim was full of love and life; she loved people, she loved animals (particularly her cats), and she loved music (particularly Elvis). Kim was known for her humor, her wit, and her ability to make others smile. She was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a Gran-Gran, an aunt, a cousin, and a friend. Kim was a fighter, and her strength held true until the end. This strength was undoubtedly fueled by her ability to spend her final days in the home where she raised her sons – a gracious gift from Greg, who was, without question, the love of her life.

After a brief illness, Kim was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents: William (Bill) Woods and Gertrude Estes, and Bennie and Idell Adkins; brother Alan Adkins; and step-fathers Ted Osborne and Charlie Abernathy.

Kim is survived by her parents: her mother, Mary Abernathy of Waurika; her father, Jim (Katy) Adkins of Weleetka, OK; her sons: Josh (Brandi) Henderson of Comanche, OK and Jed of Waurika; her siblings: Jennifer (Shawn) Aldridge of Waurika, Tim (Lisa) Adkins of Waurika, and Mollye (Adam) Tribbey of Marlow, OK; her grandchildren: Hope Henderson of Waurika, Kaegan Henderson of Oklahoma City, and Daylan Tinline of Comanche; her great-grandaughter Blayklyn Faucett of Waurika, OK; nieces and nephew: Jessica (Michael) Cornelison of Ryan, OK; Lucas (Lauren) Coody of Elgin, OK; Hannah (Brian) Harper of Jacksonville, NC; Chloe Adkins of Weatherford, OK; and Mallory Adkins of Wichita Falls, TX; and best friend Nicki Etheridge of Waurika, OK. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

There will be a come-and-go visitation reception in remembrance of Kim on Saturday, July 15th from 2pm -4pm at the Waurika Senior Citizens Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kim’s memory can be made to a human society of your choice, or to the Waurika First United Methodist Church Benevolence Fund, PO Box 67, Waurika, OK.
