First name:

Charles

Last name:

Brezina

87

Charles Brezina was born February 17, 1936, in the Mud Creek area, 9 miles east of Addington, Oklahoma to Joe and Eula (Beavers) Brezina, and left this life on November 20, 2023. Charlie, as he was usually called, grew up on the family farm with 3 sisters; Mary Jo, Pat, and Josie He attended the EB Ranch school and Addington School, from which he graduated. He enjoyed bronc riding in high school and early adulthood.

Charlie served his country in the United States Navy for four years, and toured the Mediterranean on board the destroyer tender, USS Grand Canyon. He mentioned in particular stopping by Spain, France, Italy, and Greece.

Once back home , he worked with Bill Bates in Construction, and as a union ironworker on the Big Blue bank building and projects in Snyder and Mangum, Oklahoma.

On September 17, 1960, Charlie married the love of his life, Kay Hammons, having a strong, joyful, and loving marriage until her passing on July 27, 2020. Charlie frequently picked on Kay, getting many a rise from her! They never raised their voices in anger at each other, though.

With Charlie's marriage to Kay, he also gained his 4 year old first son, Jerry Mark. Shortly after came Jeff, and later, Jason. Dad did his best to raise his sons well, he loved us, taught us, took us hunting and fishing, corrected us as we often needed , but never ever gave up on us. He frequently kidded with us and picked on us, though!

From the early 60's till '78, Charlie worked with his father in law, Paul B. Hammons, at the Waurika Livestock Market, and many people around the region knew him from there. After this he worked with veterinarian Dr. Mattox, and the Comanche Sale Barn, and tended cattle for various people. He had his own cattle up till the day of his departure.

Charlie always enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends and family, notably with brother in law Don Curtis and nephew Darrell Curtis, while nephew Dale McCurry was always good to assist Dad with the cows and other needs.

There weren't too many things Charlie couldn't build, fix, grow, or figure out, including giving good advice to a certain electrician.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eula, and sisters Mary Jo Dennard and Pat McCurry.

He is survived by sons , Jerry Mark and wife Sandra, Jeff and wife Stacey, and Jason, his grandchildren; Michelle Matthews, Julie Marek, Catlin Brezina (who has been close by him much of the time), Bali Winslett, and Blake Garrett, 7 great grandchildren, sister Josie, brother in law Paul Hammons and wife Candy, nephews and nieces, and good friends to mention.

According to Kay, sometime in '69, during a visit by Herb Masters, Charlie professed faith in Christ. Though he was quiet about it, one could see many Christian principles in his life. He once said he relied on the Lord everyday.

We love you, Charlie, Dad, Grandpa, friend, our hearts are broken at your loss....
