Bill Garland Runyan passed from this life into the peaceful and loving arms of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2024. Bill was born April 22, 1942 in Richard City, Tennessee to James Harold and Edith Rebecca Runyan. Bill, his mother, Edith and stepfather, SGT. Walter Carl Dismuke moved to Ft. Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma in 1947. Bill married Pat Harmon on June 3, 1961 in Cache, Oklahoma. He was employed by Mead's Food Company in Lawton for 12 years. In 1973, after attending the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy, he and his wife, Pat, along with their daughter, Yavonna moved to Waurika. He served as a State Trooper until his retirement in 1998. Bill was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and the Waurika Church of Christ Church. Survivors include his wife Pat, a wonderful daughter Yavonna and son-in-law John Stout of Norman, Oklahoma, one beautiful granddaughter - Brooke Layne Abney and husband Ben and one handsome grandson - Connor Paul Stout, great grandchildren - Jude, Evan, and Heath Abney, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and half - brother David and half -sister - Georgia Lou Dismuke.
Bill was 3 years old when his father, Pvt. Harold James Runyan, lost his life from pneumonia after being captured and placed in a German prison camp March 6, 1945. Bill will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love, and and appreciation of each day of life and nature. He had a kind spirit, honest, and was fair in all matters. He was a wonderful Christian husband, dad, grandfather, and best friend. Always remember to stay in his word, every day, even with trouble or sorrow it's still a good day, because Jesus is the living word. Graveside service will be Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 3:00PM at Waurika Cemetery.
